On the International Day of Forests
The United Nations General Assembly declared 21 March the International Day of Forests to highlight the importance of all types of forests and trees outside forests. Forests have been at the forefront of global discussions since the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement were adopted.
Each year, the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Forests (CPF) sets a specific theme or theme for the International Day of Forests. This year’s theme, Forests and Nutrition, highlights the importance of the world’s forests in providing nutrition for the world’s population and for people’s livelihoods. In addition to providing food, energy, income and jobs, forests provide fertile soil, clean water and a diverse range of ecosystems and habitats, including pollinators that pollinate crops.
Happy International Day of Forests!
