Presentation: hardy species and breeding

Rick Durand, from Bylands Nurseries in Kelowna in British-Columbia, Canada, will give a presentation on his experience and methods of breeding various plants for cultivation in the prairies of Canada and the US. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, September 4, at the Horticultural Society of Iceland, Síðumúli 1, between 19:30-22:00. Admission fee is 2.000 ISK (presentation and refreshments).

The presentation has two parts. The first parts deals with a comparison of the environmental conditions of the Canadian prairies and Iceland and Durand’s experience of breeding and testing new materials for difficult growing conditions. The second part will focus on presenting numerous cultivars of trees, flowering shrubs, fruit trees, roses and perennials, cultivated for the coldest areas of W-Canada.
